Recitation of the Quran without moving the lips

Question

A person is in the habit of performing salah in such a way that his lips are not moving at all while reciting any of the adhkar. Will his salah be valid?

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

In principle, it is necessary for one to verbally recite Qur’an or adhkaar in a manner that the letters are actually pronounced. Mere recitation from one’s heart would not be sufficient. Thus, if one was to recite Qur’an in such a manner in salah (without moving their tongue or lips), their salah would not be valid since recitation of Qur’an is fardh. Likewise, adhkaar recited in such a manner would not count. However, since the recitation of adhkaar is not obligatory, it would not affect the validity of the salah.
