Keeping the trousers below the ankles while playing sports

I am aware that it is necessary for a Muslim male to keep his trousers above his ankles at all times. However, sometimes while I'm playing a sport such as basketball or soccer, my trousers fall below my ankles. If I fix it right away I will fall behind in the game by losing the ball or letting my opponent pass by me to the goal. Is it okay if I wait till the play stops to pick up my trousers? Or will I be sinful if I leave them for that short period of time?

Assalamu Alaikum

Keeping the trousers above the ankle is necessary for Muslim men. Failing to do so is makrooh. As the Prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم has mentioned “The believer’s (length of) cloth should be to his mid shin, and there is no sin if it hangs between that and the ankles, and that which goes beneath the ankles, is worthy of the fire” (مجمع الزوائد).

There are more ahadith similar to the one mentioned above, that men should not let their trousers fall below their ankles.

If the trousers do happen to fall below the ankles after trying to keep them above, for example, while playing sports, Insha’allah there will be no sin. And the trousers should be fixed provided that situation and time are permitting.
