How to advise someone not to neglect Salah

my brother prays only 3-4 out of five per day, i tell him everytime i see him he should pray, is that the right thing to do? or should I just say it once and forget about it?

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

Answer:

Wa ‘alaykum as salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
 
When trying to advise someone, it is important to make sure that one does so with utmost wisdom. Allah Ta'ala mentions in the Qur'an:
 
'Invite towards the way of your lord with wisdom and good advice’ (16:125)
 
Thus, one must ensure that whilst correcting others, they do so in the most diplomatic manner possible. One must not advise in such a harsh or stern manner that deters the listener from heeding the advise altogether. Therefore, in the aforementioned scenario, instead of advising your brother every time you see him, you should look for opportune timings and advise him then in the best manner possible. Insha Allah doing so would be beneficial for your brother.
