A man misses congregation at the masjid, should he do congregation at his house with his family?

Question:

asssalamu'alaikum,

men get most reward for jama'ah at masjid but if they miss jama'ah at masjid, is it better for the father to pray at home alone or in jama'ah with his wife and non baaligh children? also women get most reward at home alone, is it better for her to pray in jama'ah with husband if he missed jama'ah at the masjid? jazakallah

Answer:

Wa alaikum salam 

If a man misses jama’ah at the masjid, he should perform jama’ah at home to get the reward of jama’ah, which is mentioned in the hadith.

If a man prays Salah at home with jama’ah, then the women should also join him. However, it is not necessary for men to perform Jama’ah at home.

It is related in the hadith that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) once returned from the outskirts of Madinah and saw that the companions had already prayed, so the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) went home, gathered his family members, and performed Salah with them.
