Saying Jumu'ah Mubarak, Educational Cartoon Series about Prophets, etc.

Question:

As salaamu ’alaykum,

Is it bid'ah to say "Jumu'ah Mubarak"?

Also is it permissible for Muslim children to watch cartoons about the lives of the Prophets online, where they represent the Prophet by an outline of his figure veiled by light?

Is it okay for Muslim teens to watch the "Ugly Truths" series online made by Muslims? What about Abdullah Puppet YouTube series?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

Wa ‘alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

Please find below the answers to your questions in the order they were asked:

  1. Saying ‘Jumu'ah Mubarak’ is not proven through any hadeeth and therefore, it is not sunnah. We should refrain from saying it to others.
  2. True Islamic knowledge cannot be acquired through cartoons. True Islamic knowledge is acquired with the means of scholars and books. Allowing our children watch cartoons in order to learn about Islam can have harmful effects on their intellectual and spiritual development later on.
  3. In regards to the different video series mentioned in the question, we are unaware of the nature of these series.

والله اعلم

And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala knows best.
