Terms of Use
Effective date: June 4, 2026 Last updated: June 4, 2026
Introduction
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website, services, and content offered by Darul Iftaa Canada ("we," "us," "our"). By using our website, submitting a question, subscribing to communications, or otherwise engaging with our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our website.
Please read these Terms carefully. They include important information about your rights, our responsibilities, and the limits of what we provide.
About our services
Darul Iftaa Canada is an Islamic scholarship organization that publishes religious rulings (fatwas), educational articles, and related content. Our services include access to our website, the ability to submit questions to our scholarly panel, our newsletter, and any related programs we may offer from time to time.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use our website. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use our services only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. By using our website you confirm that you meet these requirements.
Religious rulings — important notice
The fatwas, articles, and other religious content we publish are scholarly opinions issued in good faith and based on classical Islamic sources. They are intended as guidance for personal religious practice and reflection.
You acknowledge and agree that:
Our content is not a substitute for personal counsel from a qualified scholar who knows your full situation, nor for professional legal, medical, financial, or psychological advice. Religious rulings often depend on circumstances we cannot fully verify through written submissions. You are responsible for applying any guidance you receive to your own situation with care and discretion. Different qualified scholars may reach different conclusions on the same question; the publication of a ruling on our site does not represent the unanimous position of all Muslim scholars. We answer questions to the best of our scholarly ability, but we make no guarantees about the outcomes that may result from acting on our guidance.
If you are facing a situation that has legal, medical, financial, or safety implications, please consult an appropriate licensed professional in addition to seeking religious guidance.
Acceptable use
When using our website, you agree to:
Use the services only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, restrict, or inhibit anyone else's use of the website. Submit only truthful, accurate information when asking a question or contacting us. Refrain from sending content that is abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, harassing, fraudulent, or otherwise unlawful. Refrain from attempting to gain unauthorized access to any part of our website, servers, or systems. Refrain from using automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access our content without our written permission. Refrain from interfering with the security or proper operation of the website.
We reserve the right to refuse service, remove content, or terminate access if these Terms are violated.
User-submitted content
When you submit a question, send a message, or otherwise provide content to us, you grant Darul Iftaa Canada a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, store, reproduce, and (where appropriate) publish that content for the purpose of operating our services. This includes the publication of anonymized questions and answers in our public fatwa archive, subject to the privacy preferences you indicate at the time of submission.
You represent and warrant that:
You own or have the necessary rights to the content you submit. The content does not infringe the rights of any third party or violate any applicable law. The information you provide is, to the best of your knowledge, accurate.
We are not obligated to publish, respond to, or retain any submission. We may, at our discretion, decline to answer a question, edit a submission for clarity before publication, or remove submitted content.
Intellectual property
All content on this website — including articles, fatwas, designs, images, logos, and code — is the property of Darul Iftaa Canada or its contributors, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may view, download, and share our content for personal, non-commercial purposes, provided you keep all copyright and attribution notices intact. You may not reproduce, republish, modify, distribute, or use our content for commercial purposes without our prior written
permission. Quotation in academic, journalistic, or educational contexts is permitted with proper attribution.
If you believe content on our website infringes your copyright, please contact us at info@aliftaa.com with sufficient detail for us to review the claim.
Newsletter and communications
By subscribing to our newsletter, you consent to receive periodic emails from us. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in each email or by contacting us. We may continue to send transactional messages related to questions you have submitted or actions you have taken on our site.
Third-party links and services
Our website may contain links to third-party websites, tools, or services. These are provided for convenience only. We do not endorse, control, or accept responsibility for the content, policies, or practices of any third party. Your use of any third-party site or service is at your own risk and is governed by that third party's terms.
Disclaimers
Our website and content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties or representations of any kind, express or implied, regarding the website, its content, or any services offered. This includes — without limitation — warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the website will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors, viruses, or other harmful components.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Darul Iftaa Canada, its scholars, employees, volunteers, and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profit, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website or its content.
In no event shall our total liability to you for all claims relating to the website or services exceed the greater of one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100) or the amount you have paid us, if any, in the twelve months prior to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Darul Iftaa Canada, its scholars, employees, volunteers, and contributors from any claim, loss, or liability arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the website, or your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
Suspension and termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our website at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including violation of these Terms. Provisions of these Terms that, by their nature, should survive termination will continue to apply after access ends.
Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to your use of our website or these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in Ontario, Canada, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
If you are accessing our website from outside Canada, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with any applicable local laws.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or operational needs. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the website after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
